Is it Wise to Hire a Reference From One of Our Technicians?

“We have had mixed experiences with hiring friends of current employees. What do you advise in this regard? Is hiring a technician’s friend a bad idea?”

“Hiring is a process.

Never break your process no matter who they are. You only need to be concerned with the fact that they are qualified.

1. Role Descriptions: Define the vision for the position, clarify purpose and alignment with company values, and outline daily activities and responsibilities

2. Expectations Documentation: Provide clear, concise expectations tied directly to the business plan for that role

3. Role-Specific Goal: Establish quarterly and annual goals that align with company objectives

4. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Identify measurable outcomes to track success in the role

5. Compensation & Rewards: Detail the pay structure, incentives, and recognition programs

6. Training & Development Plan: Map out the skills, resources, and learning opportunities needed for success

7. Review & Feedback Processes: Create a consistent schedule for performance reviews, feedback, and coaching

8. Career Pathway: Define advancement opportunities or next steps available within the organization”
