Best Process for Hiring HVAC Employees | EGIA Contractor University

The Best Process for Hiring HVAC Talent

An HVAC contractor in New Jersey asked:

How do you suggest we run our hiring process?

“We take for granted that what we have, and when you take for granted what you have, what you have gets taken from you,” said Drew Cameron, faculty member of EGIA and Contractor University. “We do that as companies in many cases, we don’t take care of the people on our team, we don’t let them know how important and appreciated they are and the sacrifices they and their family make.”

Cameron went on to talk about the importance of re-recruiting your own workers as well as the importance of your own quality of service towards your customers and the standing of your entire company within the market.

“I think when we start there, and re-recruit our people and find out what we can do better as a company, we can affect that story and that culture,” said Cameron. “When everybody feels good about your team and the work that they do, then they are gonna go out and actively promote their company and be proud of the place that they work.”

This way, Cameron says, recruits will begin to desire to work for your company by hearing about how great it is from other employers. By working to raise your company’s status within your market, top potential recruits will know to prioritize applying and working for your company before going anywhere else.

“If we did that, we don’t have to go out and recruit,” reasoned Cameron. “You don’t have to go fishing into pools where, if you think about it, they are not employable or are less desirable, because the best of the best are happily and gainfully employed.”
