Electric & Gas Industries Association (EGIA) was involved in an advisement role alongside many other organizations supporting workforce development in the skilled trades with Buiding Performance Institute to create a job recruitment toolkit to aid in expanding America’s professional HVAC workforce.
The toolkit can be accessed on BPI’s website here.
This toolkit was funded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Residential Building Integration Program, through the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), to support PNNL’s efforts to recruit more professionals into the residential industry (particularly HVAC contractors, plumbers, and home performance technicians), with technical guidance from Jamie Kono.
The US currently has a strong market for residential energy efficiency retrofits, supported by substantial federal incentives, but progress is hindered by a significant worker shortage. This toolkit has been developed to empower employers, career advisors, educators, and training centers in their recruitment efforts.
Explore and utilize these free materials and strategies aimed at helping to recruit more students and employees for the following industries: HVAC/heat pumps, home performance, and residential building energy efficiency. These industries are rapidly growing, and the demand for workers continues to rise.
The toolkit was created based on market research and insights from industry experts to streamline your recruitment efforts and support the growth of the energy efficiency and HVAC sectors.
