In the August 2023 Snapshot Survey, we asked contractors how different customers react to energy efficient or sustainable systems. Here’s one survey question and its results from the summary report, which is available in it’s entirety by Contractor University members here.
Do Customers Ask if They Can Have A Less Efficient System if It Means More Savings Up Front?
When asked if customers inquire about less efficient systems for upfront savings, 15% of respondents hear this “all the time”, and 38% “some of the time.” This indicates that a substantial portion of customers prioritize initial cost over long-term efficiency. However, 20% of respondents never encounter such queries, suggesting that customer awareness or priorities may vary significantly across different markets. It is also possible that the latter group is more effective at presenting the benefits of high-efficiency systems during their sales process.
