Snapshot Survey Results | ChatGPT & AI

In the July 2023 Snapshot Survey, we asked contractors about their approach to leveraging artificial intelligence (AI), particularly ChatGPT, to streamline business processes. Here’s one survey question and its results from the “ChatGPT & Other AI Services” summary report, which will be available in its entirety to EGIA members on 8/21/23.

How familiar are you with ChatGPT and/or other AI programs that can generate human-like responses and content?

EGIA Snapshot Survey - ChatGPT and AI

ChatGPT and other AI services have the potential to streamline business processes and maximize revenue for contracting business owners. As the emerging technology becomes more widely adopted, we wanted to understand contractors’ knowledge and comfort levels with these AI language models. The survey results indicate a mixed level of familiarity and interest among the respondents, highlighting a notable number of respondents who are either already well-versed (19%) or moderately informed (53%) about these technologies. Furthermore, a significant portion expressed interest in learning more (22%).

On the other hand, a small segment showed no interest in exploring AI language models further (6%). While this percentage is relatively low, it’s essential to consider that some individuals may not yet fully grasp the capabilities and benefits of AI programs like ChatGPT. Outreach efforts, educational resources, and practical demonstrations may help bridge the knowledge gap and foster a deeper understanding of how AI can positively impact various industries and applications.

Overall, these survey results highlight the need for effective communication and education about AI language models like ChatGPT to capitalize on the interest among those seeking more information and to address potential misconceptions or skepticism among the less interested group. This can play a pivotal role in encouraging the adoption and integration of AI technologies in diverse fields to leverage their potential for generating human-like responses and content, thereby benefiting various sectors and enhancing human-machine interactions.

Here’s what an HVAC contractor from Maryland said in the survey:

“We are very interested in learning more about A.I. and how it can help us run our HVAC Company more efficiently and effectively. I think it has a place in our CRM, Advertising and Administrative tasks sectors. Just need to learn more about what’s avialable.”
