Snapshot Survey Results | Managing Underperforming Employees

In the October 2021 Snapshot Survey, contractors share their company’s approach to managing underperforming employees in order to uncover the most successful strategies for incentivizing their team to achieve maximum results. Here’s one survey question and its results from the “Managing Underperforming Employees” summary report, which will be available in its entirety to EGIA members on 11/15/21.

Which department in your company typically has the most underperforming employees?

EGIA Snapshot Survey - Managing Underperforming Employees

Underperforming employees can fail to live up to their desired outcomes in any department throughout a business, but some can be more detrimental to their company’s bottom line and the performance of their team than others. In the home services industry that is built on service, an underperforming employee in the service department is a big red flag. Yet, the majority of contractors that took our survey (39%) said that the service department typically has the most underperforming employees. There must be an established set of metrics/goals that are reviewed regularly in order to keep everyone in the service department firing on all cylinders.

Here’s what an HVAC contractor from Idaho said in the survey:

“As the Service Manager, I track and review my Service Professionals performance daily, sometimes right after the call, in an effort to increase their productivity on the calls.”
