Snapshot Survey Results | Online Lead Generation

In the September 2023 Snapshot Survey, we asked contractors about how they value ongoing business education for themselves and their employees. Here’s one survey question and its results from the “Online Lead Generation” summary report, which will be available in its entirety to EGIA members on 10/23/23.

How many leads does an online lead generation service need to give you each month for it to be worthwhile?

EGIA Snapshot Survey - Ongoing Business Education

Finding new leads can be tough, and so it makes sense to partner with an online lead generation service in order to take some of the prospecting load off your employees’ shoulders. However, not all online lead generation services are created equal, and many businesses have had mixed experiences in trying new services. That’s why we wanted to know how many leads a new service would have to promise each month to be worth giving a service a shot.

The majority of respondents seem to have a realistic view of how many leads a single service will net them, with the largest group wanting 11-20 new leads every 30 days (38%). Over 80% of respondents would require 30 or less new leads per month, giving them a balance between different lead generation services they may use, and not getting more than one lead per day from any one service. This way, a company does not risk being beholden to its contractual obligation with a single lead generation service for accruing too many incomplete service calls.

Only 12% of respondents require more than 30 leads per month, indicating a small number of elite companies that can handle a high-volume of leads, likely with a fleet of service techs and other employees. This is likely a much different type of business with latitude to meet a high demand, and likely does not represent the vast amount of contracting businesses.

Here’s what an HVAC contractor from Kentucky said in the survey:

“As contractors we must navigate the world of online lead generation while keeping in mind budget, volume and region. Each service call is different, but we want to have a replicable strategy for each new customer and this service helps with that.”
