What is a typical compensation package for a service manager position I’m hiring?

A Contractor University Member recently utilized the Ask-The-Expert Q&A feature within the member dashboard by submitting the following question and received the response below.

Contractor Question:

“I have never created a service manager position but am due to growing business. I am promoting from within. I have a guy in mind but he just got an offer from a larger company in a nearby city. Any advice?”

Contractor University Expert Response:

“Generally speaking, if its a key player, match it.

Personally, I have rarely had any success promoting a tech to become a service manager – so without any data hard to assess that question. Be sure he has a proper set of expectations, and metrics.

Your service labor rate needs to be over $400. All companies I am involved with are priced at $525.00 hr flat rate.

You need to make sure you have enough profit to pay your people well – so you work for the job – the company is not working for you.

Please be sure that your prices are high enough to properly compensate and give an appropriate offer.”
