Will A Free Diagnostics Promotion Backfire?

A Contractor University Member recently utilized the Ask-The-Expert Q&A feature within the member dashboard by submitting the following question and received the response below.

Contractor Question:

“If we run a campaign to boost web traffic that highlights “you won’t pay unless there’s a repair,” is there a risk it could backfire?”

Contractor University Expert Response:

“Creating a consumer incentive or promotion during shoulder seasons isn’t optional, it’s necessary.

Training is essential, because launching a promotion without proper sequential training will always limit conversions. I train every week. Weldon Long does it every Tuesday without exception. Mindset and promotions go hand in hand.

If you do nothing, you’ll get nothing. But if you focus on mindset and training, the results change dramatically. Would you rather have an 80% conversion rate on 100 opportunities, or 100% of just 50? Do you want 80% of a watermelon—or 100% of a grape?

The reality is, fear often drives hesitation. Everyone knows selling and communication are part of the process and they should be.

On the marketing side, I always keep a campaign calendar with year-round strategy and promotions. That way, there are no surprises—it was always part of the plan. That’s something to consider: more forward transparency leads to stronger execution and results.”
