In the May 2023 Snapshot Survey, we asked contractors about their efforts to expand their business and its sucesses and failures. Here’s one survey question and its results from the “Expanding Your Workforce” summary report, which is available in it’s entirety by Contractor University members here.
Have You Ever Had to Turn Down Work Due to a Lack of Available Workforce?
According to the survey results, a staggering 79% of home services business owners reported having to turn down work due to a lack of available workforce. This underscores the urgency of addressing the workforce shortage issue within the industry. The inability to meet demand can result in dissatisfied customers, reduced revenue, and missed growth opportunities. To ensure sustainable success, home services contractors must proactively seek strategies to expand their workforce before it becomes a problem – including ahead of busy season and the associated increase in leads.
Here’s what an HVAC contractor from Maryland said in the survey:
“We strive to retain our current employees and attract new employees with high salaries, benefits, summer vacations and employee appreciation events. Even with above-average benefits, we are often turning business away for lack of trained employees.”
